Formula One (F1) and ESPN announce a three-year rights extension through the 2022 schedule. ESPN will continue to air races commercial-free using broadcast partner Sky Sports. The new deal keeps all races live on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. The deal also makes ESPN Deportes the Spanish-language home of F1 in the U.S. for the first time Practice sessions and qualifying will continue to be aired across ESPN platforms.

Penske Entertainment Corp., a subsidiary of Bloomfield, Hills, Mich.-based Penske Corp., acquires Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the NTT IndyCar race series and IMS Productions, from Indianapolis, Ind.-based Hulman & Co. The sale is expected to close in Jan 2020.
The National Women’s Hockey League announces that compression recovery technology NormaTec has signed on as an official sponsor. As the league’s Official Recovery Partner, NormaTec will provide each NWHL team with PULSE 2.0 systems, a warmup and a post-workout recovery tool. In addition to promotion on the NWHL’s Twitch streams and the league’s social media platforms, NWHL players will lead activations with NormaTec products at select events.

National Lacrosse League names Montréal-based Sportlogiq Official Statistics Partner. Sportlogiq will collect, analyze, and distribute live match data and advanced level statistics from every game, beginning with the 2019-20 season.
Desert Ford Dealers, together with Oakland Raiders and Legends announce Ford will become the Official Vehicle of Raider Nation when the team begins play in Las Vegas in 2020 and will be a Founding Partner of new Allegiant Stadium. The announcement included this special video welcome from Raiders head coach Jon Gruden.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment launches new esports sub-brand Caps Gaming with Leidos as the presenting sponsor. As part of the announcement, Caps Gaming signs professional NHL esports player John “John Wayne” Casagranda as the first NHL esports pro to be signed by an NHL team. He will stream regularly on the Caps Gaming Twitch channel throughout the NHL season.

Raiders and Legends announce M Resort Spa Casino as “Official Team Headquarters Hotel” beginning in 2020 for the team’s move to new Raiders Performance Center as part of their relocation to Las Vegas and new Allegiant Stadium. As part of the partnership, M Resort will open an official Raiders-branded restaurant tentatively named “Raiders Bar & Grill.”

The Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District (LSED) voted to approve the first phase of the planned $450 million renovation of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome by approving Broadmoor LLC as the project’s construction firm. The first phase, largely back-of-house work, includes building a large kitchen and food-service area and adding exits to prepare for the removal of the ramps inside the Dome. The cost of the first phase is approximately $100 million. As the primary tenants of the stadium, the New Orleans Saints have agreed to pay for up to $150 million of the total project costs with the LSED and state covering the rest. Trahan Architects are the design firm for the project.
The NWHL announces that it has closed another round of equity funding led by entrepreneur Andy Scurto. Terms were not announced.

Airbnb and the International Olympic Committee agree to a nine-year partnership with Airbnb sponsoring all Olympic and Paralympic Games from Tokyo 2020 through Los Angeles 2028. As part of the partnership, the IOC and Airbnb plan to launch Airbnb Olympian Experiences by early 2020, which will offer fans opportunities such as being able to train with an Olympian or to explore a city with them. Plus, the IOC has committed to make at least $28 million worth of Airbnb accommodations available to athletes during training for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Airbnb will be designated a Worldwide Olympic Partner.

United Soccer League announces an ownership group led by real estate developer John McClutchy Jr. has entered into a conditional agreement to bring a USL Championship club to Buffalo, N.Y. The agreement is contingent on the construction of a soccer-specific stadium in Buffalo, and completion of economic feasibility studies. McClutchy, through his JHM Sports Enterprises, is working with his business partner, Dennis Penman of Penman Development Partners to identify and acquire a site to accommodate a 10,000-seat stadium development. The group is targeting the 2023 season for kickoff.

Chicago Fire announce a rebrand that includes changing the team’s official name from “Chicago Fire Soccer Club” to “Chicago Fire Football Club,” while also unveiling all new team colors, logos, wordmarks and taglines. The rebrand comes as part of the team’s move to Soldier Field for the 2020 season.
For Soccer Ventures, an investment firm focused on the growth and long-term development of American soccer is launched by Philadelphia Union investor Richie Graham. The new group will source, acquire and manage a portfolio of investments and businesses and will be comprised of two key platforms: The Soccer Collective and The Soccer Alliance.
Major League Baseball owners unanimously approve John Sherman‘s purchase of the Kansas City Royals from David Glass. Per multiple reports, Sherman will pay $1 billion for the ballclub. The deal is expected to close within the next two weeks.

The LPGA announces the 2020 LPGA Tour schedule featuring 34 events with total prize money of $75.1 million. Both numbers are up from 2019, when the tour held 33 events offering a combined $70.2 million in prize money.

eBay and Swiss ticketing company Viagogo reach a definitive agreement for Viagogo to purchase StubHub from eBay for $4.05 billion in cash. The sale is expected to close by the end of Q1 2020, subject to regulatory approval. Goldman Sachs & Co. was financial advisor to eBay. Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and Quinn Emanuel were legal advisors to eBay. J.P. Morgan is acting as sole financial advisor and sole underwriter of the committed debt and preferred equity financings for Viagogo. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Kirkland & Ellis LLP were legal advisors for Viagogo.
