The Canadian Football League (CFL) -- or in French: Ligue canadienne de football (LCF) -- is the highest level of competition in Canadian football. Currently, the league consists of nine teams.
The CFL was officially founded on Jan 19, 1958. The league was formed through a merger between the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (founded 1907) and the Western Interprovincial Football Union (founded 1936).
