Chicago Fire FC is a Major League Soccer (MLS) club founded Oct 8, 1997. The team was one of the first two MLS expansion teams along with the now-defunct Miami Fusion. They joined for the 1998 season, MLS's third year.

MLS co-founder Phil Anschutz's Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) owned the Fire from inception until selling in 2007. AEG was behind the construction of SeatGeek Stadium
