The Texas Rangers Baseball Club play in Major League Baseball's American League (AL) and began as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961.

When Minnesota was awarded an expansion team, the previous AL Senators instead moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul to become the Minnesota Twins and a new Washington Senators expansion team was created.

The new Senators played another 11 seasons in Washington, D.C., then moved to Arlington, Tex., after the 1971 MLB season to become the Rangers.
