Founded in 1886 as S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., in Racine, Wis., when Samuel Curtis Johnson, Sr., acquired the parquet flooring division of Racine Hardware Manufacturing Co., the company was known primarily as Johnson Wax until the company's 1955 launch of Raid House & Garden Bug Killer.
