Founded in 1939, the Pioneer Baseball League (PBL) was a Minor League Baseball (MiLB) league through 2020, becoming a Major League Baseball "Partner League" with the 2021 season.
From 1964-2020 the Pioneer League featured teams affiliated with MLB teams and fielding players at the "Rookie" level who played a "short season," reporting after being selected in that Spring's MLB Draft and signing a pro contract. The short season consisted of a 76-game season.
