The Columbus Blue Jackets are a National Hockey League (NHL) team playing out of Nationwide Arena (opened Sept. 9, 2000; capacity 18,500) in Columbus, Ohio.

The Blue Jackets began play in 2000 as an expansion team with their name inspired by Ohio's Civil War history. They were joined as an expansion team by the Minnesota Wild.
