Portland Thorns Football Club is a Portland, Ore.-based National Women's Soccer League team. Portland was named one of eight cities awarded teams with the Nov 21, 2012, announcement of the formation of the NWSL.
At the same time, MLS Portland Timbers' owner Merritt Paulson announced that Peregrine Sports LLC, the Timbers holding company, would also own the Thorns.
