Formed in 1997 and based in Oklahoma City, Okla., the privately-held Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is the largest women's soccer league in the world by number of clubs and the longest running in the history of women's pro soccer in North America.
The WPSL began as the Western Division of the now defunct W-League, before breaking away to form its own league in 1997.
