Oakley, Inc. is a sport and lifestyle brand founded in 1975 by Jim Jennard in his garage with $300 and a new approach to making sunglasses.
Today, the company based in Foothill Ranch, Calif., and manufactures and distributes high performance sunglasses, prescription lenses and frames, goggles and accessories, as well as apparel and footwear. Sportswise, Oakley has produced shields for football helmets since the late 1990s.
Oakley was purchased Nov. 15, 2007, by Milan, Italy-based Luxottica (now EssilorLuxottica), which owns numerous other eyewear brands including Ray-Ban, as well as optometry . . .
