The New Orleans Pelicans are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in New Orleans, La., and playing home games at Smoothie King Center. Team offices are located in Metarie, La.

Originally the Charlotte Hornets from 1988-89 season through 2001-02, the Pelicans were first established in Louisiana as the New Orleans Hornets in the 2002-03 season when the franchise's then-owner, George Shinn, relocated the team from Charlotte, N.C., to New Orleans.
