The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), founded in 1938 and based in Charlotte, N.C., is the largest governing body of U.S. college athletics.
Encompassing 525 schools in 24 regions in 42 states, over 60,000 student-athletes on more than 3,400 teams compete annually in 27 different sports across three divisions. The NJCAA sponsors 52 national championship events and nine football bowl games.
The idea for the NJCAA was conceived in 1937 at Fresno, Calif. A handful of junior college representatives met to organize an association that would promote and supervise a national program . . .
