Levi Strauss & Co. is a San Francisco, Calif.-based clothing company known globally for its Levi's brand of denim jeans. It was founded in May 1853 by German immigrant Levi Strauss who came from Buttenheim, Bavaria, to San Francisco to open the west coast branch of his brothers' New York dry goods business.
The company's corporate headquarters remain located in San Francisco, appropriately in Levi's Plaza.
