In 1948, The Jimmy Fund was launched with the help of the Variety Club of New England. The club organized a radio broadcast from the bedside of a young cancer patient as he was visited by members of the Boston (now Atlanta) Braves baseball team.
The Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.
