The Houston Rockets are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in Houston, Texas, and playing home games at the Toyota Center (opened Oct 6, 2003; NBA capacity: 18,500).
The team began play as the San Diego Rockets in 1967, founded by Robert Breitbard, who paid an expansion entry fee of $1.75 million to join the NBA.
In 1971, Texas Sports Investments bought the franchise for $5.6 million to move the team to Houston for the 1971-72 season . . .
