EyeBlack was incorporated in 2003 in Rockville, Md., by Peter Beveridge, to put logos, mascots and/or messaging on eyeblack, traditionally in sports a dark grease paint or adhesive strip applied under a player's eyes to reduce glare.

Beveridge partnered with Stephen Comiskey, a fellow entreprenuer who had patented the concept with three U.S. patents. Later, the company added additional intellectual property rights in the European Union.
