The Dallas Stars are a National Hockey League (NHL) team based in Dallas, Texas.

Started in 1967 as the expansion Minnesota North Stars, the team endured many financial struggles, and merged with the Cleveland Barons before the 1978-79 season to try and offset many costs. Barons owners George and Gordon Gund took over the combined team that remained at the Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington, Minn., the North Stars home for their entire time in Minnesota.
