The shootout had just begun as a hockey player for the United States converted on the Russian goaltender with a nifty move.

“Score!” I yelled.

“Kaner?” my wife asked, referring to Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane.

“Some guy I’ve never heard of,” I replied.

That guy I had never heard of was T.J. Oshie, who quickly turned into the breakout star of the 2014 Sochi Olympics by scoring four shootout goals in the win over Russia.
