San Diego, Calif.-based Qualcomm was founded in 1985 when seven former employees of Linkabit met at Irwin Jacobs' home to create a new telecommunications company.
The group set out to build "Quality Communications," and developed Code Division Multiple Acces (CDMA) to create a new telecom standard. CDMA would become the foundation for all of the world's 3G and 4G networks. Qualcomm continues to be a wireless technology innovator and a key player in the development, launch and expansion of 5G.
