The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is based in Huntersville, N.C., and fields 10 teams. Eight are located in the southeastern U.S. with two in Ill. and one in Ind. The SPHL's history traces back through three short-lived leagues: Atlantic Coast Hockey League - played just the 2002-03 season and the dissolved ACHL member teams formed the core of two different leagues for their 2003-04 seasons, the South East Hockey League and the World Hockey Association 2; both leagues disbanded after their inaugural season

Fayetteville Marksmen

The Fayetteville Marksmen are a Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) team based in Fayetteville, N.C. They play home games in the Crown Coliseum. The team, originally known as the Cape Fear FireAntz, began play in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League for the 2002-03 season. After the league's demise, they joined the South East Hockey League for the 2003-04 season and then what would become the SPHL in 2004 as the Fayetteville FireAntz. Cape Fear Pro Hockey, a seven-person ownership group, owned the team until local businessman
